Through Central Florida Institute of Training CDA Courses, students
can prepare to become a Child Development Associate (CDA). CFIT offers
three Early Childhood Education Courses. The courses emphasize a
skill-based performance that is demonstrated through the CDA
Competence Standards. The framework for each course uses the 6 CDA
Competency Goals, 13 Functional Areas and 8 Subject Areas that the CDA
Professional Preparation Program outlines. The courses offer 120 hours
of formal Early Childhood Training.

CDA Courses
ENC –0101
This course covers the functional areas Professionalism,
Safe, Healthy, Learning Environments and Positive ways to
support children’s social and emotional development. This
course provides the student with many opportunities to
demonstrate professional development. It discusses the
competent way to set up a safe, healthy, learning
environment. It enhances the student’s ability to help
children gain self-esteem, independence, self-control, and
socialization. It covers Subject Areas 1, 3, and 6. It is
center based for each of the four CDA settings. The student
is required to engage in fieldwork and observations during
this course.
ENC-0102
This course covers the functional areas of Physical,
Cognitive, Communication, Creative and Strategies to
Establish Productive Relationships with Families. It
enhances the student’s ability to support physical and
intellectual development and to facilitate the development
of communication skills and creative explorations of
children birth to age five. It will encourage the planning
of parent involvement, home visits, conferences, and
referrals. It will outline the importance of parent and
teacher relationships. The student will design a lesson plan
with ethnic expression to include all families. This course
covers Subject Areas 2, 4 and Child Development Theory I.
The student is required to engage in fieldwork and
observations during this course.
ENC-0103
This course covers functional areas Program Management. It
provides the student with opportunities to enhance their
management skills and identify their self as an early
childhood facilitator. The student will demonstrate their
competency with planning, record keeping, and reporting.
This course also covers effective ways of observing and
recording children’s behavior. The tools and strategies for
objective information collection are discussed. This course
will cover the principals of child development and learning.
The student will be able to record the developmental
milestones from, birth through age five. It will be
sensitive to culture influences on the development of the
child. This course covers Subject Areas 5, 7, 8 and Child
Development Theory II. The student is required to engage in
fieldwork and observations during this course.
